FRONT

BACK

September 15th, 2003:
On my way to work, I spotted something unusual on the ground and picked it up. A narrow container of some kind, just lying on the grass. A tin. The sort of metal box that holds cigarettes or a math set or something.

I was at Baseline Station. There's a college nearby, as well as a high school. Lots of traffic. The tin might have dropped out of someone's bag.

I opened it up, saw what was inside, and dropped it. No, no -- I wasn't going to take it. Just leave it there. None of my business. Finding objects is one thing, but I didn't want to get involved with this one.

But after ten steps or so, I realized that this was an extremely interesting find, and worth documenting. The container probably belonged to some high school kid. That was a Marilyn Manson piece of art on the front. Reluctantly, I walked back to where I'd seen the tin, picked it up, and put it in my backpack.

At work, I wondered if I should tell my coworkers. It didn't seem right. I had no idea how they'd react, so I kept it to myself.

When I got home, I documented the find by taking photographs.

Here's what was inside the tin:
