Mr Rogers After Eating A Solid Gold Brick
$150 -- collage and acrylic paint on posterboard
14 X 22 inches

Esquire magazine ran a photospread about Mister Rogers. The cover of the magazine showed a picture of Fred Rogers and asked, "Can you say hero?" I have no idea if Mister Rogers is a hero or not, but he has aged beautifully, and has many crinkles and folds and wrinkles for me to play with.

I enjoy old faces. There's so much character, so much to work with. Their lives are stamped into their skin. I tend to do more portraits of men than women because whenever they show an old woman in the media, they airbrush out all the good stuff. At least, what I consider to be the good stuff.

I like the way the paint samples have curled over time, giving the work an interesting texture. I had a lot of gold coloured samples, and no idea what to do with them, so I worked them into this portrait. Besides, we all know Mister Rogers is actually made of solid gold.

Many have tried to buy this painting. All have failed. Do you wish to try your luck? Simply e-mail me and this art can be yours.
