Mao is Full of Stars

The Great Glebe Garage Sale is a yearly event in Ottawa. Everyone in the Glebe digs out all their unwanted possessions and tries to sell them. I assume the garage sale is a good time, but I've never been to one. I've only gone garbage picking with friends the day after the event. What was once sitting on a rickety table, up for sale, is dragged out to the curb and left for the garbagemen to pick up. Unless I get it first.

I have no idea why someone in the Glebe would own a picture of Chairman Mao. The Glebe is a somewhat affluent neighbourhood, full of the upper-middle class. But there was Mao, in the garbage, tucked in a box of books. It was the classic Mao portrait they hung (hang?) in schools and offices in China. I snatched it up immediately, knowing I could do something with it. My version of the portrait, done on posterboard, almost makes Mao look human.

I'm not sure why he is full of stars. He just is.
