Marjorie, a friend of mine, came for a visit. She drove a long way up from Denver. I hadn't seen her for a long time, and I asked her to pose for me. She sat on the back deck in the bright summer sunlight, and I quickly did this portait. She kept falling asleep as she sat there. When I asked her what she thought, she said: "I look tired. But I am tired, so I guess you caught my likeness." I showed the painting to Sean, who knew Marjorie quite well. He said that it caught her likeness disturbingly well. For a moment, he was tempted to buy it. Another friend of mine, Jean, said that if I painted her portrait with a dog nose like that, she'd kill me. So I guess this painting has mixed reviews. I like it, anyway. Buy it by sending me an email. |
