This is, by far, one of my favourite paintings. It just came together so beautifully. Who are the three dead people? Well, they're three of the people who died in Walkerton. For those of you who don't know Canada very well, there was a poisoned water tragedy in Walkerton, Ontario. A water-filtration plant there went wonky -- thanks to budget cuts -- and people were killed. The Ottawa Citizen ran a picture on the front page of 6 people who'd died. Three of the faces didn't really grab me, or the pictures were of low quality. Three faces really stood out. And they were all wearing glasses. It couldn't be a coincidence! While I am sure these people are remembered in Walkerton, the rest of Canada is already forgetting the faces of the people who died -- assuming they ever knew the faces at all. So here is a memorial, of sorts, to their memories. This painting is for sale. I will miss it when it's gone, but that's no excuse. Drop me a line If you'd like to try prying this work from my fingers. |
