| It's fun to experiment. This abstract work is a colour explosion on watercolour paper. It currently hangs over the computer in our home. I occasionally look up at it and lose myself in the ribbons of power. I think of this piece as the opposite of those zen circle paintings. In the traditional zen painting, you have a plain circle of black ink on white paper. It's meant to represent the line between inside and outside, and how that line is an illusion. These classic paintings are very quiet and very profound. In my version, colour runs riot, and a calm white circle -- fraying at the edges -- tries to contain it all. I guess that makes this a modern zen circle, more in keeping with our hectic North American lives. You can own this painting. E-mail me and we'll discuss the matter. |
